Basketball Shot for Android Games Review

I think we all agree that free throws are the most exciting aspect of basketball. So welcome Basketball Shot to android games. With a little flick of your finger you shoot the basketball into the (sometimes moving) hoop. Basketball Shot is available in both a paid ad-free version for $1.49 or for free with some ads. A worthy note to make is that the ads are not at all obtrusive or distracting during the game and are only really noticed on the menu screens.

When booting up the game we immediately greeted with the opening menu system. Here in Basketball Shot, the icons are slightly on the small side and some of them such as the link to the website portal are a bit unclear until you click on them. This is only a minor detraction and all options are clear after you open them up. A nice plus here on this screen is that it displays your high score, just for added encouragement.

Gameplay is simple, with a ‘swoosh’ shot giving you 3 points and others giving you two. These add up to try and meet a given target of points and must be done within a time limit. It reminds of the old-school arcade games. Simple yet addictive. The targets on each of the stage are cumulative as in the score will keep adding to your last one. I’m assuming this was done for ease when posting to the global leaderboard, which is again a welcome addition. To try and increase the difficulty on the later levels the hoop does begin to move.

The graphics are simple yet clear, with the animation of the four basketballs done nicely with them feeling and behaving like a real basketball. In between stages a nice little celebratory screen will appear showing your score and giving you the option to exit or continue, with a oddly anorexic cheerleader animation. While pleasing at first the novelty of this does where off failry quickly.

Overall this is a good game, that can easily become addictive. However more experienced gamers will find the first few targets relative easy and will breeze past them. The game though is a good enough to keep them enticed for that time. With the only option being to play through the stages there are limited options. Fantastic for a quick fix of on the go gaming.
