Face Chain is quite a unique Android game. It’s not quite a puzzle game yet not quite an action game, falling some where in the middle. The aim of Face Chain game is tokill as many enemies as possible by start a chain reaction with the tap of your finger. This tap shoots four bullets – one bullet in each direction – until it kills an enemy which in turn will shoot four bullets. The challenge in the game is to meet the target kills.
The graphics are simple yet effective. Each face is has a different expression and it is distinctive from every other one. There are nice touches such as the giant No! which appears when a friendly face has been shot. However the single colour background is rather basic, and while it does change colour when completing the task – successful or otherwise – it seems like a lost opportunity to add depth to the game. Even a static illustration would have added more character to the game.
The actual gameplay is engaging with each level offering a different challenge with a number of different enemies helping to add complexity to the game. Different enemies include ones that two bullets to kill and ones that when killed do not produce any bullets when killed. This definitely adds to the longevity of the game. However when misjudging your original tap, it can be frustrating to sit through each subsequent reaction knowing that you’ve already failed. Hopefully though these occurrences don’t happen to often.
The controls are the simplest of any game I’ve ever played. One tap and that’s it. The sensitivity is right as well, ensuring a minor brush will not be recognised, but the tap will be recognised. This simplicity is tied to the rest of the game, when choosing from the options menu and choosing what level to play. All can be done with a solitary tap. It’s a nice change.

Overall this is a good good game, one that will keep you entertained for a little while, it’s not a huge game – 20 levels – but it does offer decent entertainment value. IT does have its weak points, mainly the basic graphics and sometimes forcing the player to watch rather than interact, but the good points, the clever enemy design, the unique concept all outweigh this to make it quite the addictive little game.
